She has a taste for encounters. Billie, 22 years old, with black bangs and a curly gaze, carries within her an English landscape combined with a French sensitivity. It’s a strange blend: a mix of rock and tender words, of the earthy and the soaring, of anxiety and innocence. It’s a desire for elsewhere, which took flight early in her childhood. From the age of six, Billie has been singing and learning the piano with her musical family. She was nurtured by the dream pop of the Cocteau Twins, the post-punk of Joy Division, and the experimental rock of the Velvet Underground, while also developing her sensitivity through the unique voices of French icons like France Gall and Françoise Hardy. Watching Stop Making Sense, a documentary about Talking Heads, was pivotal for her: that freedom of tone, that strangeness, and that demand – all of it drew her in and guided her, like a guiding star.
